AirStash Support

This topic applies to non-DRM'd files, i.e., video files that were not purchased from the iTunes store.
There are many various video formats. Many file types, such as .MOV, .M4V, .MP4 can all have different encoding formats within the file. This means some .MOV files can play on certain devices and others can't, for example. This is why some video files will play on a computer, say a MacBook, but not on an iPhone. The good news is that your non-DRM'd video files can be easily converted to a format both compatible with your iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, along with optimal streaming via AirStash!
For Mac, PC, and Linux (Ubuntu and Fedora) users, we recommend using Handbrake 0.9.4 or later for video encoding. This application will read in your existing video and output them in an optimized format for AirStash playback for your Apple products.
When encoding with Handbrake, we have found that always checking the "Web optimized" box under "Output Settings" provides greatly improved performance when streaming video via AirStash. In addition, we recommend using the presets for encoding (click on "Toggle Presets" icon at top right) in this priority order:
There are other parameters that will also affect the video streaming performance, but besides the former setting, bit rate is a major factor. If you plan on streaming to multiple devices simultaneously (AirStash firmware 1.0 or later), we recommend encoding in the "Apple iPhone & iPod Touch" or "Apple iPhone 4" formats. The general recommendation is to encode video at the lowest bit rate that provides a pleasurable viewing experience on your device.
